WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?
Annual costs associated with Scouting are less than most other youth programs.
Registering in BSA
Annual registration for a scout is $145 or $160 if your scout wants a subscription to Scout’s Life Magazine. This is done through the BSA website.
Pack Fees
This year pack fees are approximately $80/child/year. This covers achievement awards and pack activities.
The cost breakdown is as follows:
Annual registered scout fee
Pack Awards: $23 (includes: belt loops, patches, pack store, etc.)
Pack Activities & Events: $6 (includes: Pinewood Derby)
Pack Leadership registration fund: $35 (Help pay for leader registration and offset costs for live scan)***
Other incidentals cost for scouting events
Annual registered Adult fee for leaders
BSA Scout Fees including national registration fee, local insurance and local operations fee: $80
**One-time $25 BSA joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Sea Scouts.
***Leadership registration fund: Not all parents are required to register with BSA but pack leaders such as committee chair, treasurer, den leaders, cubmaster, etc are required to register with BSA and any leader that interacts with kids are required by CA state law AB 506 to get a background check and live scan which can cost an additional $43 every 2 years. Any extra funds will be put back into the pack activities funds.
Uniform
The uniform is a method of delivering the Scouting program. It shows that you are a member of a team. Each grade has a specific uniform for their den. All uniform pieces come out to approximately $100. Prices subject to change. To minimize costs for the next year, we do a uniform swap.
The nearest Scout Shop is located on 1207 Upas Street San Diego, CA 92103. You can also purchase online from https://www.scoutshop.org/.
Click here to help guide you with purchasing all uniform pieces. Please note that Our pack has a “waist up” uniform policy, which means we don’t require specific pants or shorts. The only requirement for the shorts and pants is that they must have belt loops.
Class A Uniforms: Blue button down shirt (Webelos scouts may wear tan shirts), scout cap, scout belt with buckle, neckerchief (based on rank), neckerchief slide which are typically worn for den meetings and formal events.
Class B Uniforms: are t-shirts with our pack name and logo on it. We typically wear these camping, at outings, and more casual events.
Insignia and Patch Sewing Services
Bobi’s Tailoring offers a service to sew on scout patches at $1.00 per patch. They know the correct insignia placement for the Cub Scout uniform. You bring in the uniform, insignia and/or patches and they’ll do the rest. She knows where every Scout patch is to be sewn.
